Our Story

We believe that education is key to unlocking human potential, in any corner of the globe.

In Honduras, as in many other developing countries, there are numerous barriers to education that prevent kids from achieving even a basic education. The hardest hit children are those growing up in poor, rural areas.

In a study of educational attainment among Hondurans between 15-24 years of age, the Education Policy and Data Center found that an alarming 19% did not even complete a grade school education. Among the poorest, 62% do not complete high school, with males dropping out at a greater rate than females.

In poor, undeveloped communities, no more than 4 in 10 children will complete a high school education.

The biggest challenges that rural students face are rooted in problems of infrastructure, their remote location, economic disadvantages, and even family pressure to earn wages.

  • Lack of funding
  • Lack of Learning Materials
  • Shortage of qualified teachers
  • Long distances to school
  • Hunger
  • Expense of education

How We Work

We focus on solving some of these problems from the ground up.

We start by identifying schools that serve underprivileged, rural communities. Once we decide to partner with a school, we work closely with administrators to verify enrollment and prioritize needs.

Our primary goal is to meet the most basic needs of every student. To that end we secure a school supplies to last each student an entire year. We provide notebooks, paper, pens, pencils, erasers, a sharpener, erasers, crayons, colored pencils, and a 12” wood ruler – all free of charge.

Other needs that we regularly meet include clean water filtration systems, student desks, teacher desks, dry erase boards, student backpacks, and teacher materials such as guides, workbooks and other resources.

As we head into the 2018 school year, we will be delivering our first set of classroom PCs at our pilot school in Veracruz, Honduras. While computer labs can be found at large, urban schools, they are not common in smaller communities…another example of the educational divide these schools experience.
